| The 2 Secrets to Losing Weight |

I know the two secrets to losing weight healthily and I want to share them with you; diet and exercise. Many people look for the next easy way of losing weight, which could come in the form of a pill, a new fangled exercise machine (such as the ridiculous horse riding machine), or some kind of treatment from a so-called beauty salon. However, much controversy surrounds these weight-loss methods but my guess is that if one of them worked, it would be widely publicised and adopted by the global mass population. Unfortunately, in the mean time, many people experiment with these well marketed, over advertised weight loss schemes but do not realize that there are negative consequences affecting their well being and are in fact jeopardising their health.
Although, I casually mention that diet and exercise is the secret to losing weight healthily, this is more complex than one might realize. Let's look at diet first. Everyone seems to be on a diet nowadays, and there are so many different ones available that book stores have whole sections dedicated to them. You have the Atkins diet, the South Beach diet, the G.I diet, the Mediterranean diet, the I'm Going To Starve Myself diet. Even these diets are not necessarily healthy. Take for example, the Atkins diet. In a nutshell, Atkins suggests that all carbohydrates are eliminated from your diet, and you just eat meats and vegetables. That means no rice, potatoes, bread, and so on. However, experts now say that the high meat content in the Atkins diet can lead to high blood pressure, high cholestoral, heart attacks, and ultimately death. Well, at least you die thin. So how should you diet? Just eat healthily and do not overeat. That's just my opinion though. So now let's look at exercise. If we're looking at the population of developed countries as a whole, only a minority of people have adopted a regular exercise schedule and when people want to lose weight, many overlook this part of the equation. There are two main types of exercise you need to do when trying to lose weight healthily. One is aerobic, which is doing exercise that gets your heart racing; for example running, cycling, swimming, and oddly enough, aerobics. This type of exercise makes you fitter and faster, and also increases the number of calories you burn. The other kind of exercise is resistance training, where you perform an action against resistance. In essence, this is lifting weights. You push against resistance and you get stronger. A bit like life, really. The after effect of this, is that you gain muscle. Muscle burns more calories than fat even when you're not moving, which makes it easier to stay thin. Try making a plan to lose weight which focuses on diet and exercise and, if executed well, I guarantee that you'll not only lose weight, but you'll look great too!
